Born in the south of the English capital as a very young single mother, the dancer of Jamaican origins Valerie Morris, Naomi Campbell (who takes the surname of her mother's second husband) never knew her biological father.

Black Venus spends the first years of her childhood in Rome due to Valerie's work (she is a modern dancer who travels often, subsequently leaving her daughter in London, under the guardianship of some relatives). Campbell's education took place between England and Italy: the English model attended "The Barbara Speake Stage School" at the age of three; at ten little Naomi studied classical dance in the Bel Paese at the Academy of Dramatic Arts “Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts“; he concluded his education by attending the “Dunraven School“.

Campbell's modeling career – rightfully included by the magazine “People” in the top 50 of the most beautiful women in the world – began in 1986. The then sixteen-year-old Black Venus was immortalized on the cover of “Elle” and the following year appeared on the renowned Pirelli Calendar (a project which would see her involved again in 1995, in 2005 and 2018). In 1988 Campbell broke her first personal record: she was the first black woman to appear on the covers of “Vogue” and “Time magazine“.

It doesn't take very long for the main maison to realize the sensual and innovative beauty of Naomi Campbell. The supermodel becomes a testimonial for many brands such as Valentino, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Yves Saint Laurent and even for the Italian cosmetics brand Pupa Milano.

The main designers compete for the Black Venus on the catwalks. Naomi Campbell is a tireless workaholic and models for practically all the best brands in the world, from Tommy Hilfiger to Vivienne Westwood, from Oscar de la Renta to Diòr. Furthermore, there is no shortage of illustrious collaborations such as the one with the famous lingerie brand Victoria's Secret or the magazine “Playboy“, for which she poses naked.

On 22 September 2017 Campbell took part in a fashion show with a very high symbolic value. In Milan the woman takes to the catwalk to pay homage to the unforgettable designer Gianni Versace on the twentieth anniversary of his death. At her side are other famous colleagues such as Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni. In 2018 the Black Venus was awarded the Fashion Icon Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Advertising campaigns

Naomi Campbell has always been a face sought after by many fashion houses and beyond.

In 2009, Venere Nera and Linda Evangelista were the faces chosen for the Dsquared² campaign; during the same year Campbell also joined her colleagues Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigová to sponsor the first collection of perfumes by D&G Anthology Fragrance.

The supermodel was also a spokesperson for Burberry and La Perla.

Actress career

Naomi Campbell is an erupting volcano from a professional point of view. His career ranges from fashion to television, passing through music.

The Black Venus debuted on the small screen in two important sitcoms: “The Robinsons“ (1988) and “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air“. in the nineties the supermodel made the big leap from the small to the big screen. Campbell takes part in films such as “Cool as ice“, “Girl 6 – Sex online“, “Hollywood burns“. In 1999 he was the protagonist in the film “Inconvenient Witness“. In 2006 he played “The Call“, a Pirelli short film intended for the web.

In more recent years Naomi Campbell was hired to appear in important TV series: “American horror story” (fifth season), “Empire” and “Star“.

Singing career

Perhaps not everyone knows that Naomi Campbell began her career in the world of music from an early age. He did it exactly at the age of eight, when he took part in the video clip Is this love by the reggae legend Bob Marley. There are numerous videos in which the Black Venus appears in all her beauty. Among these we remember Michael Jackson, Madonna, Notorius B.I.G., Puff Daddy and Macy Gray .

In addition to being guest star very welcome in video clips of successful singles, Campbell herself decided to lend her voice to the cause of the seven notes: she did so in 1992 when she sang Cool as ice, the main song for the film of the same name in collaboration with the rapper Vanilla Ice. In 1995 the British supermodel launched herself on the record market with the album “Baby Woman“, snubbed in England but much loved abroad, Japan first and foremost. In the land of the Rising Sun the extract from Campbell's album La La La Love Song (in collaboration with the Japanese singer-songwriter Toshinobu Kubota) becomes an authentic catchphrase, also thanks to its use in the dorama “Long Vacation“.

Private life

Supermodel Naomi Campbell really cares about the fate of populations in difficulty. in 2005 the Black Venus participated in providing aid to the survivors of the terrible Hurricane Katrina; it is also at the forefront of the fight against poverty in Africa. Another very important cause for the model is racial equality on the catwalks: this is why Campbell has embraced the “Diversity Coalition” cause together with her colleagues Iman and Bethann Hardison. The aim is to report fashion houses that commit discrimination against black models.

Campbell is a "much loved" figure in the pink magazines. Over the years the gossip about the Black Venus have spread across the pages of all newspapers; among the most famous loves of the top model are the U2 bassist Adam Clayton and the well-known entrepreneur Flavio Briatore . In 2021 Campbell announces to the world that she has become the mother of a little girl, fueling the mystery about the birth of the creature.

The life of the London supermodel is not, however, all studded with sequins and limelight. Campbell is unfortunately known for her violent temperament, sadly tested by her collaborators, who were the object of the star's embezzlements - often physical.

Another dark parenthesis in Naomi Campbell's life is linked to her drug and alcohol addictions, due to which the supermodel entered a rehabilitation program.

Naomi Campbell: special cameos

Naomi Campbell is an influential figure in mass culture. A clear demonstration of this popularity is the treatment reserved for the supermodel by Disney, which has always been accustomed to paying homage to many showbiz characters with paper version alter egos. This is how Maoni Soupbell, a supermodel duck who appeared in 1996 in the story “Donald Duck and the bad luck on the catwalk“, came to light.

In the comic “Zagor” a character clearly inspired by Naomi Campbell appears in three adventures: her name is Marie Laveau.
